PUTTING THEORIES INTO PRACTICE

Hi all,

I think I have mentioned this before of being a parent. Today I would like to talk about being a mother. I am sure many would agree that to be a mother is one thing but educating the children is another thing.

Yesterday I was talking to my students regarding problems of being a mother. One of my students was sharing about her experiences educating her 3 year old son. She complaining about her difficulties of educating her son for not making mess on the house walls. To her she had done many things from telling to punishing. The discussion was so 'hot' and lot of ideas have been thrown by class member.

We tried to discuss the matter by using different perspectives of learning theories. Much have been said when we started to relate the matters with learning theories. The explanation through the discussion was interesting yet to some extent the class member became emotional...interesting to see them arguing issues by using theories.

And at the end of the discussion we came to a conclusion to argue back whose are really having problems...is it the child or is it the mother? I will continue discussing this matter in our next issue...
Very interesting...

Any comments...

Cheers...

EDUCATING CHILDREN ABOUT TIME

Hi all...meet again...

When we talk about time there are a lot can be discussed.
For some people time is precious. But interestingly some may say time is important but the way they deal with time does not shows any respect to the time.

Its true that people will always be in the disadvantages side if they failed to see the importance of time. Islam emphasised this clearly and firmly.

Inculcating the sense of time appreciating in children is not simple. The way they see the time is different to the way we see it. I have mentioned this before how struggle I am in educating my children to appreciate time.

This time around I managed to propose short phrases of appreciating time. As for my children they need to learn and to understand that "loosing time is easy but to get it back is impossible"!!!!!!!!!!
To me they need to be told by giving them enough analogies and examples. By giving more analogies which presented in variety of ways and perspectives they can see the importance of time clearly.

Lets say that an individual misses the flight. This actually gives no harm to the individual by the first sight. But if we ask them to look further than they will see a lot of trouble will come later following to the flight misses. Misses the plane is one thing which can be resolve simply by rebooking the next flight. But if we can show them further they will see more problems will be created just by missing the plane. The man will need to reschedule everything, his meeting perhaps, his money of course, and many other things. This is what the children should see and learn. At least not the event per se but how losing time will affect many other things.

This is important especially when we relates to other aspects such our daily time. Time table for example is in fact is considered as one way of learning about time. By having structured schedule of time we hopefully can manage our daily activities efficiently. That is why our children needs to learn timetable as way of appreciating time and not just as an activity of managing the daily activities. The understanding of this idea will hopefully be understood as an understanding of how importance of appreciating time in our life.

As at this point I would say that what ever scheduling or managing the daily activities we trying to convey to our children it should be presented as a process of learning to appreciate time.

Lastly but not least as I am always confident about is giving appropriate enough examples consistently. Pertinence to that I would like to talk about the characteristics that we should posses if we about to play an effective role as an educator or as a parent in our next discussion. Possessing enough competencies as an educator become paramount and of course will ensure the learning process of our children be implemented smoothly.

That's all for now.

See your again next time.
